VW Golf Electric blue-e-motion
Volkswagen confirmed the plans for producing an all-electric version of the hugely popular Golf, projected to go on sale in 2014.
The concept version of this car, which looks just like a normal Golf, is called the blue-e-emotion and the most important thing about it is the “all-electric” word.
It does not come with any sort of petrol or diesel engine even as generator to charge the batteries, so it’s a zero-emission car all of the time. It just has a sophisticated electric motor which develops maximum power of 85 kW / 115 PS and a continuous power output of 50 kW / 69 PS, and peak torque of 270 Nm.
That means a zero to 100 km/h time of 11.8 seconds, top speed of 135 km/h and a range of 150 km on full charge which is only enough for daily city driving. Of course the final production model may increase these numbers a bit as new technologies are discovered! You can charge it via a regular plug, but it also come with solar roof which generates a small amount of energy to help.
Currently there’s no word on the car’s pricing and availability in different markets.
