Vauxhall Ampera Pricing

The Chevrolet Volt will go on sale in Europe as the Opel Ampera, which itself goes on sale in UK as the Vauxhall Ampera!

And although they’re basically the same car they will have slightly different prices in different markets. In UK, the starting price for the Ampera is set at around 34,000 GBP. But it qualifies for the 5,000 GBP government incentives for green car, so theoretically the end user will be able to buy it for £28,995.

That sounds a bit steep, for a car that can only go up to 50 miles purely on electricity.

When its range-extender internal-combustion engine kicks in though it’ll be able to cover 360 miles. A full charge for Ampera’s battery can be achieved in less than four hours via a domestic 240v electricity socket at an average cost of around £1, depending on tariff.  Commuting within the 50 mile range willensure very low running costs on battery electric drive only.
