The Frustrations Of Getting Gas In My 2004 Nissan Sentra – New Video

Ok, now for the backstory. On June 3, 2011, I pulled up to a Sheetz gas station to fill up my 2004 Nissan Sentra. Why do I remember the date? Because it was the day before my wedding, and I was getting my car ready to be driven on our honeymoon to the Cape Cod area. I had gotten an oil change, changed the filters, topped off the fluids, and was making sure I would have no worries spending dozens of hours in it the next week. About 10 seconds after I started filling up, my lovely car vomited the gasoline right back out and onto my shoes. What the heck? I started filling up again, and the same thing happened. I then spent the next twenty minutes slowing spoon-feeding the car gas at the lowest possible speed. It would go for a second or two and then CA-CHUNK, CA-CHUNK, CA-CHUNK. I drove home and immediately forgot about it, as I had slightly more important things going on, like getting married. It was annoying to get gas like that through our honeymoon, but not enough to waste precious time at the shop while on our vacation. Then when we got back, all our focus went into being married and living together and everything that goes along with that. My gas tank just wasn’t a priority. I slowly got used to it and found the pumps that work slightly better than others. For some reason Sunoco stations work pretty well, and pump #3 on the station I drive past daily can get the job done in about 10 minutes. As I got used to it, it became less of an annoyance and just a habit. Besides, there were ALWAYS other things that came first. Got a little extra cash from Christmas? Oven breaks down. Get a raise? Have a baby. Finally decide to spend some money fixing the car? It needs $1,000 worth of repair on absolutely necessary items like breaks and tires. And then the older the car got, the “someday I’ll fix that” turned into “someday I’ll sell that.” RIP That someday turned into last Saturday, the day I made this video. The video is super rushed and doesn’t have everything I wanted because immediately after I filmed, we took the Sentra and traded it in. I’ll write all about our new car in my next post. Oh and speaking of the video, I promise the next ones will be better. Please subscribe and I’ll do my best to hold up that promise. What Was The Problem, Anyway?  Oh, and if you’re wondering, the issue was a vent control valve. It’s a pretty common problem and can be fixed for between $100 and $300 if you care enough to get it done. For me, it just added some more character to my  beat up little car that will hopefully find a new home with a high school student or a scrap yard. Goodbye, Internet-Famous Car By the way, my car is very slightly internet-famous! I took this picture of the back of it on our two year anniversary and posted it to Facebook. Somehow it’s ended up EVERYWHERE. 9Gag, The Chive, tons of random sites, and even Larry The Cable Guy have posted it. Unfortunately this didn’t exactly increase its value. Oh well. RIP 2004 Nissan Sentra. I will miss the memories, but I won’t miss filling it up with gas.
