Receiving a driver’s license is a rite of passage, of sorts, for teenagers. While this can be an exciting season of freedom and independence for teens, it can also be a nervous time for families. The period between Memorial Day and Labor Day – summer vacation for most students – has been called “The 100 Deadliest Days” for teen drivers. According to Verizon Telematics, during the Memorial Day weekend alone, American motorists drove 50 billion miles, resulting in an estimated 200,000 reported accidents. Families across the country are having safe driving and road safety conversations with their children to help keep them protected behind the wheel. Hum by Verizon, an easy, self-installed solution that helps make almost any car smarter, safer and more connected, can offer families an extra layer of comfort as we move through these next 100 days and beyond. To help increase teen driver safety, we’re excited to announce the “Get hum and Go Promotion”. Starting today through Aug 31st, when family members purchase hum for their newly licensed teen, they’ll receive a credit for the equipment fee, activation fee and first three months of service. Hum is equipped with state-of-the-art technology that delivers car owners amazing features like speed and boundary alerts, monitoring of vehicle location (including stolen vehicle assistance), vehicle diagnostics, a mechanics hotline, and even pinpoint & emergency roadside assistance, should the need ever arise. Personally, I have a 12-year-old daughter and I’m already dreading the day she gets her first license…but having a technology like hum makes the transition (for me as a parent) a lot more palatable. Having the peace of mind that knowing she’ll have roadside or emergency assistance at the push of a button, or knowing that she got to school safely when I get a text message from hum, helps put my mind at ease. Parents and legal guardians of teens (up to age 19) who receive their first license between January 1 and August 31, 2016, are eligible for the Get hum and Go Promotion. To take advantage of the offer, equipment and service must be purchased on hum.com, VerizonWireless.com or in a Verizon Wireless retail store between June 9 and August 31, 2016.
