1250009993-hangupanddrive-6795148-1293669-3209718It’s the second Friday of 2013. By now, many of us have already failed some of our New Year’s resolutions. That’s OK. The way I look at resolutions is that if you make a misstep, tomorrow is a new day to try again. We can’t change our habits overnight.

This way of thinking is not only applicable to achieving a healthier lifestyle, but it is also a way for us to approach bad driving habits. Like reaching for that junk food snack at 10 o’clock at night, that instant reflex to reach for your mobile device every time it rings, dings, pings or buzzes isn’t going to disappear right away.

If you’ve been a reader of Best Cars Guide for long, then you know that I advocate for my peers and the public to stop driving while distracted.

We have to take it step-by-step to ease out of the behavior we’ve allowed ourselves to be accustomed to and ease into our desired behavior. But the key word here is desire.

Did you know that texting while driving makes you 23 times more likely to crash? That should be motivation enough to think twice about reaching for your phone to check email or respond to a text when behind the wheel.

In this New Year, I’m calling once again on anyone reading this to join me in resisting the temptation – make driving distraction free the resolution you stick to in 2013.

Are you with me? If so, please tweet the following pledge:  I’m resolving to resist the temptation – I pledge to drive distraction free in 2013. Will you join me? #distractionfree13
