MERCEDES-BENZ plans to supplement its production by installing inflatable car seat belt, the safety belt that can be inflated, and is named as Beltbags. Much like the Ford Explorer, Beltbags Mercedes-Benz expands when the sensor detects the impact of a severe frontal crash. If this happens, the belt will be inflated to provide surface protection over a wide area. Multilayered belt strap with Velcro seam can expand almost three times their normal width in an accident, according to the automaker. By retaining a wider field was expected to distribute more evenly the pressure on the rear passenger’s body, thereby reducing serious injuries due to the reduced pressure is focused on a small field that hit the rib cage.
