Three things define summer: country music, attending live concerts, and getting together with friends over good food. This weekend, we had the quintessential summer experience with friends from Northern Virginia Housewives and RightFootDown at the #InterstatesandTailgates concert series sponsored by Ford Motor Company, starring country music performer Toby Keith. Now, if you’re not a country music fan, that’s OK. You’ve probably heard Toby Keith’s catchy hits like “Red Solo Cup” without even realizing it. I distinctly recall the bright yellow Ford F-350 Tonka Truck that he debuted in his lighthearted video, “Who’s Your Daddy?” So, yeah, it’s no secret that Toby Keith is a Ford man. Ford sent us six tickets to attend the show at Jiffy Lube Live and some spending money to put together the perfect country concert tailgate. They also generously provided a gorgeous 2016 Ford F-150 4×4 Supercrew Limited to make our adventure legit. Our tailgater was one of dozens of patriotic F-150’s that filled the parking lots around the arena. Of course, our Limited edition truck (number 87 off the line at Ford’s Dearborn plant) was a cut above the rest, featuring a black interior with beautiful Mojave leather and natural wood accents. This F-150 Supercrew Limited sat on 22-inch polished aluminum wheels mated to Pirellis — not your typical truck tire. Driver and front passenger enjoyed heated, ventilated and massage seats while rear passengers had plenty of room with a view thanks to a massive panoramic moonroof.

How to create the perfect summertime tailgate

1. Get the truck and get the goods.

2. Invite some awesome friends to join you.

3. Decorate like a classy Southerner would.

4. Customize your menu.

5. Devour your delicious eats.

6. Head in to enjoy the show!

Disclosure: Ford Motor Company generously provided the concert tickets for six guests to the Interstates and Tailgates Toby Keith concert held at Jiffy Lube Live. Ford also provided a small budget that we put toward the purchase of food for guests and decor for the event. None of the budget went toward alcohol and a designated driver returned guests home safely and responsibly.
