The smoothest running of your car can be acquired if its O2 sensor is working properly as it is a main component in this way. There are several problems that might be caused by this O2 sensor. Here we will discuss the problems caused by O2 sensor along with the ways to diagnose them.

Problems with fuel; Check Engine Light:

The most common problem that an O2 sensor can bring about is bad fuel economy. If you observe that all other components of your car are working properly and you have applied a tune up to your car as well but it is still offering bad economy then surely this problem is caused by the O2 sensor. As, O2 sensor is particularly designed to drive an electric impulse to the car’s computer at the time when there is more fuel in the air and fuel ratio so if the sensor has damaged or stopped working, it will cause the air and fuel ratio to become incorrect and thus resulting in extra gas usage.

Long Term Effects:

The auxiliary fuel can result in misfires from your vehicle spark plugs that usually become saturated with the extra gas. In case when your car starts to misfire, the check engine light will then automatically alert you that something is going wrong there. The most simple and easiest way to conclude what the problem is would be to first test out your spark plugs. If you find them still in a good way, then come to your O2 sensor to move ahead.
Misfiring and backfiring are dangerous not only for your car’s combustion but they are also harmful for the environment because they produce smoke as well as combustion into the air which adds to the hydrocarbons and bad gases that are prohibited by emission laws.

In regions where emissions laws are made strict, having a bad O2 sensor can result in your car to fall short its emissions test. In order to pass this test this problem required to be solved first
