Looking at the 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe
There were few changes on the 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe lineup, most of which involved its engines.
The SUV’s design is lent to the Cadillac Escalade and the GMC Yukon. It’s capable of seating 9 passengers and is available in 4 different trim levels, namely: the LS, LT, LTZ, and Hybrid (gas/electric) trim levels. The models have both rear wheel and 4 wheel drive systems. GM’s 4-wheel drive Autotrac is a function which allows maintained engagement on dry pavement. It also has low-range gear for off-roading.
Non-hybrid models use a 320 hp 5.3 liter V8 engine with a 6 speed automatic transmission. However, the 4.8 and 6.2 V8s are no longer available. These non-hybrids are compatible with E85 ethanol-blended fuel. They also have a max towing capacity of 8,400 lbs. GM’s Active Fuel management cylinder deactivation is present in every Tahoe engine as well.
As for safety features, the Tahoe’s got ABS or antilock brake system, antiskid system, traction control, and curtain and front-side airbags.
The ABS is an automatic system that will keep the wheels from getting locked up when you hit the brakes, allowing you to maintain control over the entire vehicle. The antiskid system effectively controls any instance of skidding by applying individual brakes on the wheels to keep the car from straying off course. Traction control ensures better grip, which keeps the vehicle from skidding. Lastly, the front and curtain-side airbags protect the passengers inside the vehicle from getting hurt in case of a collision.
In addition to the safety features above, there are also certain features that are available only for the LTZ trim level of the Chevrolet Tahoe.
The LTZ can have an optional blind-spot alert, which helps keep the driver aware of any obstacle that would otherwise not be in the driver’s vision (which is why it’s called a blind spot). Heated and cooled front seats, which allow the adjustment of these seats temperature to your liking, are also an LTZ-exclusive feature.
Lastly, the Tahoe also has a wireless cell phone link for making calls and using your mobile phone through wireless commands while driving, rearview camera for a much clearer view of what’s behind the vehicle in cases of backing up or parking, and a navigation system for identifying routes and locating areas and roads.
Compared to the 71.9 average rating that a large sport-utility vehicle gets, the Tahoe 4-wheel drive’s fares much better, garnering a total score of 78 from the expert’s ratings. The cargo room and the Tahoe’s assessed value within its class get the most attention from the evaluators, both criteria getting ratings of 10 each. Most of the other criteria get a slightly above average rating ranging from 6-9.
