Cadillac STS 2010
The STS remained the same from its previous models. The change it applies for 2010 is the new trim levels. The V6 engine of this luxury sedan is commendable compared to its models with V8 engine. The dominant V6 engine is enough to suit the power needs of the STS. Space is an advantage of the Cadillac STS but the tough competitors like BMW 5 series and Mercedes E- class is definitely leading in overall performance.
The STS has five option packages which include Luxury Sports, Luxury, and Premium for V6 engine while Luxury and Performance for V8 engine. The Luxury Sport model of the V6 engine has wheels 17 inches in rim, leather upholstery, aluminum interior accent, eight- way power seat in the front, automatic dual zone climate function, remote keyless entry, radio, and Bose audio system compromising of eight speakers. The additional features of the V6 Luxury model include interior wood accent, power lumbar support front seats, Bluetooth connectivity, memory settings for the driver, front seats that can be heated or cooled, heated steering wheel, and heated rear seats. The V6 Premium model includes wheels 18 inches in rim, advance brake function, automatic level control, rear spoiler, auto dim rearview mirror, auto dim xenon headlights, navigation system, and an improved surround sound system.
The Luxury model of the V8 engine has standard features of the V6 Luxury model except for the active seat ventilation. Additional equipment includes the automatic level control. The V8 Performance model has the standard equipment of the V6 Premium model plus a blind zone alert, active cruise control, sunroof, active suspension, and head- up display. The V6 Premium model and V8 Performance model are offered with two packages- Platinum and Performance Handling. The Platinum package includes leather upholstery and trim, highlighted design of Olive Ash wood, and chrome wheels. The Performance Handling package compromises of the high performance Brembo brakes and summer tires.
The typical STS have a horsepower of 302 with a 3.6 liter V6 engine. Another engine choice has a horsepower of 320 with a 4.6 liter V8 engine. The engines have an automatic transmission of six- speed. It is offered with a rear wheel drive or all wheel drive mode. Fuel economy of the V6 engine runs an average of 17 mpg in city drive and a mpg of 26 in highway drive. Combined highway and city drive totals a mpg of 20. Fuel economy of the V8 engine runs an average of 15 mpg in city drive and a mpg of 24 in highway drive. Combined highway and city drive totals a mpg of 18.
Safety equipment of the STS is advance with the lane departure warning, blind zone alert system, active steering, antilock brake system, stability control, and airbags built in the front, sides, and curtain portion. It gained a four- star rating in the crash test note for frontal and side impacts.
Additional Magnetic Ride Control suspension is also offered by Cadillac in two types- Touring and Sport. Handling is calm in the touring mode while it’s rigid for the Sport mode.
