2011 Hyundai Sonata Recall
Hyundai is recalling 139,500 units of the 2011 Sonata models built between December 11, 2009, through September 10, 2010 in America, over a problem in the steering wheel column.
As NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) reports, in the affected cars the instrument shaft universal joint connections are either improperly assembled or insufficiently tightened.
That obviously can result in complete separation or compromised attachment of the connections, such that the driver could experience a loss of, or reduction in, steering capability increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix easy and will be done free of charge at the dealers. They will inspect the whole steering column for assembly and torque, and as an apology for the inconvenience, will also update the power steering software!
Looks like Hyundai still has to work on its quality.
