Since the Korean cars made by Hyundai and Kia use a lot of common parts made by the same part makers, when something goes wrong for one of them, it almost certainly goes wrong for the other as well!

A few days ago Kia recalled 8,000 Sorento SUVs over an improperly machined rear brake caliper which results in brake fluid leakage and eventually reduced braking power.

And now Hyundai too is recalling over 1700 units of the 2011 Santa Fe, guess why!

According to the NHTSA report: “Hyundai is recalling certain model year 2011 Santa Fe vehicles manufactured from September 28, 2010 through November 25, 2010. Some of the rear brake calipers may not have been properly machined,”

“As a result, brake fluid will leak, followed by illumination of the malfunction indicator light indicating the brake fluid level is low and should be checked. Then a soft or spongy brake pedal feel, and if not serviced, reduced braking power which could increase the risk of a crash.”

The owners of affected cars should visit the nearest dealer to have their vehicles fixed free of charge.
