2011 BMW X1 xDrive28i
In their quest to lower fuel consumption through downsizing, BMW revealed a new edition of the X1 SUV powered by a new four-cylinder engine.
This new four-pot is modeled on the firm’s renowned straight-six, and is charged by two turbochargers and as a result churns out 245 hp and 350 Nm of torque in spite of its 2000 cc displacement.
It also features a host of fuel saving technologies, such as High Precision Injection direct petrol injection with innovative solenoid injectors, and the latest further enhanced version of the BMW-patented VALVETRONIC variable valve control system.
The economy figures for this engines are 7.9 litres/100 km or 35.7mpg with CO2 emissions of 183 g/km.
The new xDrive28i can be had with either a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic. It has BMW xDrive all-wheel-drives system calibrated for optimised driving dynamics and does 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds (manual transmission) or 6.5 seconds(automatic transmission).
Pricing of the new variant is yet to be announced.
