If I Had $1 Million to Spend on Cars…

Let’s play a little game. Here are the rules:

  1. You win $1,000,000.
  2. You can ONLY spend it on cars.
  3. Let’s just say for the sake of the game you don’t have to pay for any insurance or any other fees.

For a car fanatic like me, that wouldn’t be a hard task – or would it? There’s so many options. I could buy a single exotic car. I hundreds of crappy used cars just for fun. Or I could pick and choose evenly, acquiring a pretty decent car collection.

After pondering this for a while, I came up with a list of my final choices. Have a look below, and start daydreaming about what you would buy!

Option 1 – The FIRST 2015 Mustang GT350R

I haven’t been obsessed with a car in a long time the way I’ve been obsessed with the GT350R. I want one badly. But in this case, it’s not just any old GT350R – I’d want the very first one.

That’s right, if I’d won $1 million back in the beginning of this year, I would have gone straight to the Barrett-Jackson auction and scored this Shelby GT350R.

Its 5.2-liter V8 produces more than 500 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. It’s the strongest naturally aspirated engine from Ford to date. It’s slimmed down by 130 pounds and contains a revolutionary suspension system. And it looks amazing.

With all proceeds going to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, a million bucks never felt so cool.

Option 2 – A Fleet of 333 2002 Toyota Camrys

I did the math, and I could blow my new riches on a million-dollar car, or I could go the exact opposite direction and spend it on more than 333 affordable, reliable cars. That brings me to my next choice: Three hundred thirty three 2002 Toyota Camrys.

The Camry is one of the world’s most dependable cars. It’s affordable, it gets great gas mileage and… and… it’s there. It’s the car that gets you there and back again, and again, and again, before giving it to your son as his first high school beater car.

Just one isn’t enough for me to boast my sensibility, so I would spend my whole million on 333 of them. A few things I’d do with them:

  • Build a paintball field out of them, with keys in the ignition so players could move them during the game.
  • Park them ALL on my old high school band director’s lawn.
  • Have a 333 long Camry parade that crashes the town’s 4th of July parade (which is just a bunch of tractors anyway)
  • Rent them out to kids without any sort of ID check.
  • Play giant Jenga with them.

Option 3 – A Healthy Mix of Awesome

All right, I see your point. Maybe 333 Camrys are a bit too excessive. What if I split the million evenly among cars that cost between $80k and $300k? Then I’d have the perfect gleaming fleet in my driveway (although I’d need a new garage). Let’s take a quick tour, shall we?

  1. Tesla Model S P 85: $80k.

It’s all-American, it’s electric and it’s bad to the bone. Its 85 kWh batteries produce more than 400 horsepower and loads of torque. Plus, insane mode.

A light, comfortable super-sedan, its V8 produces 560 horsepower. How’s that for neighborhood carpooling?

It’s a car that never goes out of style. The best thing about 911s is that they always look like 911s, no matter the generation, and the turbo version sneaks by all those exotics under the radar. Perfect.

  1. Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster: $300k

It’s the open version of the gullwing car. 0-60 in less than 4 seconds, and you can just hear the engine purr while doing so.

  1. 2010 Used Rolls-Royce Ghost: $150k

If I ever had a chauffeur, I’d ride in style in this baby. Quiet, cozy luxury. What more could you need?

A V12 that drives like a bat out of hell and sounds like heaven. Plus the new James Bond movie is coming out soon, so that factors into the decision.

  1. Fisker-Karma Sedan Eco-Chic: #103k

402 horsepower – all-electric power, that is. It’s a dazzling, environmentally friendly car – with incredible style. And a mustache.

That leaves me with $3000, which gives me either wiggle room for my prices that were probably wrong, or a bonus Camry.

Now you’ve seen my picks, but what would you choose? Start drafting that list, maybe you’ll share a few of my choices!
