What you’ll need:
You will require the following things to tow a trailer:
- Trailer
- Vehicle
- Companion
Procedure:
- First of all you must check your vehicle carefully. You have to ensure that all parts of the trailer are in good condition and in working form. Don’t forget to take a ball and a hitch with you that are of the same size. The size can be 1 7/8 inch, 2 inch or 2 5/16 inch
- Now come across the trailer tongue and check that the load’s balance is not excessively heavy. Whip lashing can occur in case if center of gravity is too far forward on the trailer.
- Keep in mind that the trailer will set excessive weight on the back of your vehicle, which can affect your vehicle braking and steering as well.
- Next, cautiously put together the trailer to your vehicle. First, unlock the hitch After that, put a padlock or else bolt by the ball lock mechanism, thus it would not open accidentally.
- Now come across the hitch of the vehicle frame and attach safety chains to the hooks. Verify that there is enough limp in the chains, but it should not be surplus; as it would not let them to drag on the ground.
- If you can raise the tongue off the ball then use the tongue jack to do it, if you are able to do this, it’s either the ball is not correctly locked otherwise the tongue and ball sizes don’t go with. In this case, replace the ball with the suitable size. And then try it once again.
- Next stop raising the jack when you obtain maximum consent. After that, attach the lights by means of the wiring harness.
- Now come to your companion and ask him to check if your lights are functioning correctly. Tell him to stand behind the trailer and look at as you tap the brakes, and take a left and right turn signal alternately as well.
- Try to make safe the trailer’s load. This will put off things from taking off your trailer and resulting in the damage.
- When you take out your vehicle on the road, reduce your normal driving speed. Try to drive on wider vicinity when going around corners, as the trailer generally swings in a shorter arc as compare to your vehicle
- Next apply brake and accelerate cautiously. Provide yourself with extra pace while you drive your car similar to you are driving your car on snow or ice.
- It appears quite difficult to back a trailer fro the first time. Remember to back gradually, making small corrections as well and keep in mind that when you turn your steering wheel, trailer usually goes to the opposite direction
