Nearly all vehicles have a separate access cover for the side view mirror. On the other hand; Jeep Grand Cherokee does not have this. Now a question arises in mind how to replace the slide-view mirror of a Jeep Grand Cherokee. In this case you have to remove the complete door panel to access the side-view mirror assembly. As there are different procedures for various jeep models hence here we consider two procedures one for 1999 to 2004 models and second one for 2005 to 2009 models

Things you’ll need:

You will require the following things:

  • Pliers
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Pry tool or flat-head screwdriver
  • Door trim panel tool
  • Replacement door clips (from 2005 to 2009)
  • Torx screwdriver
  • Socket wrench

1999 to 2004

Step 1:

Begin with removing the negative battery cable via loosening the nut by means of the pliers. Don’t forget to slip away the cable from the terminal ahead of beginning.

Step 2:

Loosen the three small screw covers there on the door panel. You will find the first screw on the sail panel at upper corner of door panel; second one in the armrest storage section; and the third one at the back the interior door handle.

Step 3:

Now, take out the screws from all places i.e. from the sail panel, armrest storage compartment and interior door handle as well. Torx bit will be required to remove the door handle screw although the other two screws are normal Phillips screws.

Step 4:

Now take a door trim panel tool and use it take away snap the door clips. You will find there eleven clips that are securing the panel to the door. Put in the tool between the panel and the door, and push this tool back to snap away the clips.

Step 5:

Next cautiously pull the panel from the door and pick up the door lock rods from their mount. Separate the power window switch connection as well as the power mirror switch connection. Put the door panel to one side.

Step 6:

Now come to the side mirror assembly by pulling off the foam panel. Hold up the mirror assembly with your hand, and take out the three nuts mounting the assembly to the door. Watchfully pull out the mirror assembly.

Step 7:

Finally put in the new side view mirror assembly, and make protected the locking nuts. After that, put back the door panel, electrical connections plus locking rods. Keep in mind that installation of the door panel is the reverse process of its removal.

2005 to 2009

Step 1:

First of all take away the negative battery cable.

Step 2:

Do away with the three door panel screws. You will hit upon one of these screws screw at the front portion of the panel; another beneath the door handle; and the last in the door armrest console. Latest models e.g. 2008 model have an additional screw which is there under the power window switch control. To get to this screw pry the panel up.

Step 3:

Grasp the door panel through the lower storage compartment, and then pull it effectively to unsnap the clips. Carry on this step until you have all the clips unsnapped. Drag away the panel, and pick up the door locking rod as well.

Step 4:

Disconnect the connections for the power window switch as well as power mirror switch.

Step 5:

Next take away the four locking nuts from the sail panel area. Grasp the external part of the mirror assembly at the same time as you are removing them. Pull away the mirror assembly.

Step 6:

Now mount the new mirror assembly, and then make safe the locking nuts.

Step 7:

For replacing the snap-on clips, turn over the door panel. Usually these clips are designed for almost one time use; and the majority of them will be broken down. At this time you have to replace simply the broken clips.

Step 8:

Attach the door panel again; join the door locking rod and electrical connections as well. Once you have done then replace the screws.
