As university students embark on a year of “broadening their horizons,” they won’t have to worry about borrowing Mom or Dad’s old junker to get to class or grab groceries. Ford and Zipcar have teamed up to help U.S. college students tote around in style, and for much less than a monthly payment would cost them. This week, Ford Motor Company and Zipcar, Inc. – the world’s leading car-sharing network – announced their partnership to make transportation more affordable, fun, and sustainable for students across the country. The two-year alliance will make Ford the largest vehicle provider for Zipcar’s University program. With classes starting at campuses throughout the U.S., students can expect to see the 2012 Ford Focus and 2012 Ford Escape arriving at a campus near them. The alliance will bring Ford vehicles to more than 250 university campuses – and at a cost savings for these pupils. The first 100,000 new University members to sign up for Zipcar will receive $10 off the $35 annual membership fee, plus $1 off the hourly rate for the first 1 million hours of use on any of the new Ford vehicles at select colleges and universities. This should be especially exciting for students attending schools in Washington, D.C., where George Washington University, American , Georgetown, Howard and Catholic are partners in the program. Students who attend these high-caliber institutions typically do not bring a car – either because there are few options for parking or they are international students. The Ford, Zipcar coupling will enable thousands of students to both move about the city and extend their travels beyond the city’s borders (if only to visit the Cotsco in Arlington, Va. to stock up on supplies).Learn more about the new partnership by downloading this fact sheet and watching the video [embed]https://youtu.be/WORSGiPCFzU[/embed]
