Ford Mustang: 50th Anniversary Celebration Mustang aficionados worldwide have been celebrating near and far over the past weekend for the 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang. Celebrations of Ford’s most iconic vehicle wrapped up on Sunday at the Empire State Building in New York City. Yet, other celebrations took place across the country, most notably in Las Vegas, Nevada and Charlotte, North Carolina. Empire State Building I would consider this to be the most interesting feat by Ford in their celebrations. They ultimately decided to build a yellow 2015 Mustang convertible 1000 feet up in the air. Interestingly enough, this was not their first time trying it. In 1965, Ford decided that it would be a good idea to build a white convertible on the observation deck. As you would expect, there was a lot of planning that went into building a car on top of the Empire State Building. The challenge was quite apparent, seeing as using a crane or helicopter to deliver the Mustang’s parts to the top of the building was out of the question. Thus, they resulted to 1965 tactics, by cutting the convertible’s parts into pieces that would fit through the 3-foot elevator door opening. All of the planning worked out, as the crew successfully built the model and showed it off to the public until April 18th. Vegas and Charlotte Other exciting celebrations took place over the weekend. For instance, in Vegas and Charlotte Mustang enthusiasts registered to showcase their cars at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway. In Las Vegas, over 3,000 Mustangs were displayed from owners spanning across the U.S. and Canada. International Mustang Clubs were also represented, with groups traveling from France, Germany, and the Netherlands. The Mustang Club of America hosted the historic event, and entertained over 25,000 spectators. 50th Anniversary Mustang (Limited Edition) In 1964, Ford launched the Ford Mustang. To continue the 50th anniversary celebration, they decided to create the 2015 Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition model. Only 1,964 vehicles will be built and are scheduled to go on sale in the fall. The limited edition model will only be available in two colors: Kona blue or Wimbledon white. The model will be based by on the 2015 Mustang GT Performance Package. Powered by an upgraded 5.0 liter V8, this limited edition will have plenty of horsepower. Featuring a limited number of customization options, besides color, the only other decision buyers will have to make is whether they want to drive in automatic or manual. This model also raises some interesting questions to ponder. Since Ford is only going to release 1,964 vehicles, it will be interesting to see what consumers actually do with their limited edition model.  How much does it cost? Will owners actually take them out and drive them, or will they keep them locked away in their garage? Yet, the real question that most Mustang lovers will want answered is how to be one of the lucky 1,964! We’ll have to wait to find out those answers soon.
