In December, Ford unveiled a redesigned version for the 2015, 6th generation Mustang. Coming next fall; the new Mustang will mark its 50th Anniversary. For the last 50 years, the Mustang serves as a symbol of Ford. Bill Ford, the Chairman of the namesake company said in a video for employees: “This is the most important product we have, at least to me personally. Every time we unveil a Mustang, the stakes are raised, and yes, I get nervous, but more than that, I’m really excited.”
Of course, what is on everyone’s mind is what will be included in the new Mustang. Some our saying that Ford is taking one of their biggest steps forward in recent decades with this iconic pony car. The 2015 Mustang will feature a turbocharged; 2.3 Liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine joins the traditional V6 and V8 options. Yet, the quarter-mile-friendly live rear axle will not be featured. The new car will be lighter, lower, leaner, and very nice to look at.
Even though it has been 5 decades since the original Mustang was released and many things have changed, this new sixth-generation model still has the retro flair that a true Mustang enthusiast will want to buy. The model features many Mustang staples, including a long hood, tri-bar tail lamps, and analogue dials on the dashboard. Everything that one would expect is there and designed to look progressive.
The engine choices that Ford decided on with this new model are quite innovative, well one of them really. The 3.7 liter V6 engine returns, basically unchanged, while the 5.0 liter V8 has received a number of subtle performance tweaks. These include new forged con-rods and valve springs.
Yet, the new 2.3 liter V4 engine is likely to get the most attention. The last time a V4 was featured on a Mustang was back in the 80’s and only featured 132-HP. Thirty years later, the new EcoBoost engine will deliver more than 305 horsepower and 300 lb’s of torque. This means that this engine will produce the same power and more torque than the current V6 unit, while being lighter and more efficient.
All New Interior
The interior of this model may feel familiar, but take one look at the current generation Mustang and you will see a massive difference. Materials in the vehicle are of much better quality, seeing as real aluminum and chrome are used instead of painted plastics.
Higher tech models of the car features a central touch screen LCD running MyFord Touch. Another smaller LCD sits behind the wheel in-between the analog speedometer and tachometer. Other tech additions include keyless ignition, smartphone connectivity through Sync AppLink, adaptive cruise control, and a new stability and traction control system.
Still an American Muscle Staple
Behind all of the forward thinking and technological additions, the car is still a Mustang. Known not only for its iconic history and sales dominance, affordability and reliability, many seek Mustangs because they are fully customizable. The Mustang community fully embraces all of its generations. Maybe you want to add some power to it? Maybe you want to change its exterior? In a world where everyone is trying to standout, it’s easy to with a Mustang because of the thousands of aftermarket parts and used equipment available.
Now, all we can do is wait. After officially being unveiled at the Detroit show in January, sales of the 2015 model begin in the fall. Ford has not officially released the MSRP for the 2015 Mustang, but the 2014 ‘Stang has a starting MSRP of $22, 510 and it’s unlikely the new model will be significantly higher.
